Overview

The Oyster 49 with it’s superb handling characteristics and powerful rig is widely regarded as one of the most heavily constructed models Oyster ever built, with no expense spared. The now classic, elegant Rob Humphries design is synonymous with blue-water cruising yachts and prioritises practical, stable and safe yet exciting cruising. The Oyster 49 offers the perfect combination of being easily handled by a couple or short handed, while still giving generous interior volume and great headroom throughout.

‘Blackjack’ Oyster 49/14, currently in her third ownership, looks stunning in flag blue Awlgrip. She has had one brief trip to the Mediterranean but unusually for an Oyster has never been raced or crossed any oceans. This is a lightly used blue water yacht in exemplary condition with little exposure to uv sunlight.

With electric in mast furling, powered genoa furler, primary winches and mainsail control winch, she is perfectly set up for short handed sailing from the cockpit. The experienced owners have even added a retractable sprit with a furler for the cruising chute which can also be controlled from the safety of the cockpit and aft deck. The electrified Simpson davits, an addition under her current ownership are another example of some of the many useful upgrades to enable safe and simple cruising.

A step into the interior with it’s wonderfully light and bright saloon, upholstered in blue Alacantra, shows further evidence of her minimal miles sailed, the extensive American light oak joinery (a hallmark for the Oyster build) being in excellent condition throughout.

The Oyster 49 is a fine live-aboard blue water proposition for owners preferring to remain in the under 50ft size range from the handling, maintenance and berthing viewpoints. ‘Blackjack’ is a splendid example of this rare and much admired sailing yacht.

‘Blackjack’ is currently afloat in her marina berth in Mylor Yacht Harbour near Falmouth.
A marina berth in this very sought after marina may be available via separate negotiation.

OWNERS COMMENTS
In our joyous fifteen years of owning Blackjack we have had a wonderful time navigating the waters of the southwest including many trips to the paradise Isles of Scilly to enjoy the pristine beaches and wonderful crabs and lobsters. Sailing Blackjack, usually under full canvas but on one memorable occasion making the return passage from Guernsey flying only the cruising chute, has been exciting, rewarding and above all has felt safe, even in occasionally adverse conditions. She is a very comfortable yacht to live aboard as a couple but has ample space for another couple of family members for a week or two as well.

Wherever we have sailed with Blackjack, people have stopped to admire her. Many interesting conversations have taken place and new friends have been made. The decision to part with her has been a very difficult one, but the time has come for a change of direction and we wish her next owners fair winds and following seas.
