Overview

Moody Carbineer 46 from 1978.  These yachts were the pinnacle of quality, built to Lloyds 100A1 standard and designed by Laurent “Jack” Giles.  She was ordered from AH Moody and Son’s in 1978 by Neil McKinnon the Scottish owner of Drambuie whiskey.

Massive restoration in 2011/12 including Re-wiring using tinned wiring. Re-plumbing. Complete boat repainted in Awlgrip including masts & booms. Re rigged. Decks and woodwork all renovated. Vetus bow thruster. Mikuni central heating system. Engine removed and rebuilt by Perkins specialist. Hull beneath the waterline was stripped back and treated with three coats of epoxy and coppercoat. Rib in Davits, Upgraded owners cabin giving double bed, Lithium battieries installed 2023  Further restoration in 2017 including full refurbishment of both heads and galley.

CONSTRUCTION
She was ordered from AH Moody and Son’s in 1978 by Neil McKinnon the Scottish owner of Drambuie whiskey. Built to order between 1969 and 1979 the run started off as a Carbineer 44 but was lengthened to become the 46 which allowed more headroom and a larger aft owners cabin. There were only ever 32 Carbineers built. These yachts were the pinnacle of quality, built to Lloyds 100A1 standard and designed by Laurent “Jack” Giles. The hulls were moulded by Marine Projects in GRP and were extremely heavily built. The yachts were then fitted out by Moodys using the finest teak and mahogany.
THE RESTORATION
The restoration included:-
Re-wiring using tinned wiring.
Re-plumbing.
Complete boat repainted in Awlgrip including masts & booms.
Re rigged.
Decks and woodwork all renovated.
Vetus bow thruster with two control stations and remote that also controls windlass
Mikuni central heating system including hot water system
Engine removed and rebuilt by Perkins specialist.
Hull beneath the waterline was stripped back and treated with three coats of epoxy and coppercoat.
The rebuild was supervised throughout by a qualified marine surveyor and these surveys are available. She has been the subject of a full survey in March 2018 for insurance purposes and again in June 2021, for valuation purposes, when moving to Pantanius.
The current owners purchased her in March 2013 and during their ownership of almost eleven years she has been continually upgraded and improved whilst cruising her throughout Ireland, Scotland, France, Portugal and Spain.
Lithium batteries fitted 2023.
MACHINERY
Machinery maintenance of Sylvana has been meticulous and she comes with many spares. Sylvana is fitted with a Perkins 6354 Diesel engine that was fully rebuilt in England by a Perkins specialist approximately 1300 hours ago.
A Bowman mani cooler was fitted approximately 7 years ago.
Two large engine room fans.
Large stainless steel calorifier heated from the engine or shore power/ generator.
The gearbox is a Borg Warner velvet drive, completely rebuilt approximately 1300 hours ago.
Twin alternators fitted.
Sylvana was fitted with a Whisper Power diesel M- GV7i generator in 2023. Brilliant and quiet. This generator powers the yacht, charges batteries via the Victron charger, allows the immersion to be run etc. This generator has its own separate battery and charger. Sylvana is fitted with a powerful Vetus bow thruster which is controlled from touch panels fitted at the internal helm station and the cockpit helm station. In 2023 a remote control lanyard system was fitted which also controls the bow thruster and the anchor windlass.
The Mikuni MX60 diesel central heating system heats water, circulates this to seven radiators throughout the yacht. These radiators have a two speed fan behind them which can be used if necessary. This system also heats the water in the main calorifier. Timer and control in saloon.
The Cruisair reverse cycle air conditioning has outlets in the saloon and sleeping cabins. Propeller and shaft were checked and cutlass bearing was renewed in 2022. Twin switchable Racor glass separation filters.
ELECTRICAL
In July 2023 Sylvana's battery bank was totally upgraded. The house batteries were upgraded to drop in Lithium 24volt batteries of 230AH each (still under warranty) and the two start batteries were replaced by 2x100ah sealed batteries.
Appropriate “smart” Victron kit was added to protect the alternators etc.
A Victron BMV battery monitor is fitted which monitors both banks.
In 2020 2 x 100 watt semi flexible solar panels were fitted to the coachroof. These are discreet and controlled by a Victron MTTP controller. Sylvana is fitted with a Victron Multiplus 3000 24 volt charger / inverter.
There is also a galvanic isolator.
Electronics are all Raymarine including:- Raymarine E7 series hybrid mfd. Raymarine Digital radar. Raymarine AIS 650 send and receive. Raymarine Type 2 Linear Drive autopilot with P70 head unit both new 2017. Raymarine ST60 instruments to both helms, wind, speed, depth, and additional close hauled wind to saloon.

Holding tank to both heads.
Diverter valves fitted to both heads approximately three years ago to allow both Sanimarine electric toilets to discharge directly overboard or to holding tank
Blakes seacocks, newer type with grease nipples - newly serviced.
All plumbing was completely renewed during Sylvana's restoration and has continued to be improved.
Very large and powerful water pump system gives great pressure throughout the yacht. Fresh water deck wash/ anchor wash/ outdoor shower at bow.

RIGGING & SAILS
Full teak decks in great condition.
Mainsail is a vertically battened Maxi- Roach within a Hood mast.
The mizzen was supplied by Quay Sails and was converted to a lazy jack sail bag system several years ago.
The Genoa is also vertically battened and a Furlex Genoa furlex furler is fitted.
Main and mizzen are very good, Genoa is serviceable.
A Whisker pole is stored on the main mast.
LED deck lights to main and mizzen masts.
Genoa winches are paired Lewmar 48s while the mainsheet winch is a Lewmar 34.
A mahogany swim/boarding ladder is stored in one of the two very large lazarettes to port and starboard.
A stainless steel folding swim ladder is fixed to the stern.
Stainless steel reinforced Simpson classic davits are attached at the stern, recently re-rigged with dyneema. This easily holds a 3.1meter rib with 10-20hp engine.
A Horizon 1500 windlass is fitted and 90m of galvanised chain is carried, swivel and anchor.
Protective sunbrella covers are fitted to the deckhouse, the wooden hand rails, helm station and table, liferaft, all hatches, primary winches and windlass.
New unused covers are on board to replace the winter hatch covers.
Sunbrella sunshades for the cockpit area can be attached to both sides of the mizzen lazy bag by zips, a further mesh sun shade provides additional side shade.
A sunbrella skirt has been made to protect the hull when berthing longer term.
Helm station with varnished wheel, full compliment of navigational equipment and an opening varnished teak table.

A Highfield 310 CL rib is included. Chaps have been made and fitted to this rib.
ACCOMMODATION
Sylvana has eight berths, two in the Fo’c'sle, two superb single berths in the forward cabin, and a single berth on the settee in the saloon. Add to this the owners cabin which originally had two large single berths. Sylvana has been upgraded so now the owners cabin has a double and a single / day bed.

Day Heads
The day heads, opposite the galley is larger than the ensuite and have been subjected to the same extensive renovation as the ensuite.
Within there is a wet locker, LED lights and Mikuni central heating outlet.

Galley
The galley has been extensively renovated which includes wall tiling using special flexible adhesives and the work surfaces have been wrapped in granite.
The oven is an Oceanchef 3 from GN Espace, supplied by two 6kg gas bottles located under the skippers seat outside.
The gas locker is vented and has an electronically controlled gas leak detection system. The galley also includes an eye level Panasonic inverter microwave.
A large front opening fridge is complimented by a large drop down fridge or freezer (fitted with a dual switch thermostat). Both cooling systems are keel cooled and Isotherm.
There is a General Ecology Seagull type water filtration system beneath the sink which provides drinking water from the boat's tank, doing away with bottled water.

Saloon
The saloon contains the interior helm station and two settees, plus opening dining / card table.
All upholstery, foams, curtains etc were replaced in 2021.
The seat bases have an additional set of covers underneath which have never been uncovered.
There is very significant storage behind and under the seating.
There is a set of drawers to starboard containing a chart drawer.
Large drinks cabinet to port.
The two electrical panels have been renewed and are located to the starboard as you enter the cockpit via steps.
The interior helm contains a full array of ST60 Raymarine instruments, bow thruster control and VHF/DFC radio.
Domestic Denon hifi is fitted and runs off shore power or the Victron inverter.
Four drop down windows to the sides and two large opening escape hatches allows plenty of ventilation.
Reverse cycle air con and Mikuni central heating are both controlled from the saloon which has two radiators and a large air con outlet.
LED lighting and Cabin Denmark reading light.
