Design and Capability

The Bowman Starlight 46, built in 2003 and designed by Stephen Jones, was conceived as a fast and capable performance cruiser. She combines rewarding sailing performance with the exceptional build quality for which Bowman Yachts are known. As a result, she remains a highly regarded choice for serious cruising.

Accommodation and Layout

This yacht has been professionally remodelled, with the forward cabin converted into a large owner’s en-suite cabin. Below deck, the traditional layout is well suited to extended offshore cruising, with excellent storage throughout and a warm interior finished in cherry joinery. Accommodation includes two double cabins plus a dedicated workshop and utility cabin, which is a valuable addition for longer passages. In addition, 230V power is supplied to all cabins.

Refit, Equipment, and Use

A significant refit was completed in 2016, after which the yacht sailed to Portugal and has seen very little use since. Power is provided by a Nanni 5.280HE 62hp diesel engine. The yacht is also supplied with a new, unused 3D Tender 280 RIB, featuring Hypalon tubes and an aluminium double floor.

Condition and Viewing

Overall, this Bowman Starlight 46 presents as a well-sorted and capable cruising yacht. Because the major refit work has already been completed, she offers a straightforward ownership proposition.

DECK EQUIPMENT & INVENTORY

Crash bulkhead fitted aft of deck storage locker, which also houses the vertical lifting bow thruster and battery bank, provides storage for downwind sail, warps and kedge anchor.

Rear cockpit lockers provide storage for outboard engine, warps, folding bicycles and canvas items.
Two ventilated gas lockers provide storage for 4 gas bottles.
Edson 2 x 40inch wheels – hide covered. Separate quadrants and steering cables to each wheel providing backup.
Each wheel pedestal has Silva steering compass.

Broker's Comments

Sensibly set up for real cruising rather than brochure appeal. The forward cabin conversion is particularly well executed and genuinely changes how the boat works on passage. The sort of modification you only make once you’ve lived aboard and know what matters offshore. Having seen many Starlight's over the years, this one feels tighter and more purposeful than most, and the light use since the 2016 refit shows. She’s the kind of yacht that would happily do miles without drama, which, in our experience, is exactly what these boats are at their best doing.
