Overview

Design and Seakeeping

The Malö 39 is a highly respected Scandinavian cruising yacht, known for her build quality and offshore capability. With a fully encapsulated keel, solid hull construction, and a deep aft cockpit, she offers a calm, predictable motion at sea. As a result, she inspires confidence in a wide range of conditions.

Construction and Layout

Built to a high standard, the Malö 39 blends strength with comfort. The aft cockpit layout provides excellent protection on passage, while below deck the interior feels warm, practical, and well suited to extended time aboard. This balance makes her a popular choice for serious cruising sailors.

Upgrades and Systems

‘Kumari’ has benefited from a strong programme of recent upgrades. These include a new engine fitted in 2024, recent new sails, an updated navigation suite, rigging hardware, diesel heating, and electrical system improvements. Because these key areas have already been addressed, she presents as a genuinely turnkey bluewater cruiser.

Cruising Readiness

Overall, this Malö 39 is well prepared for offshore passages and long-term cruising. The combination of recent investment and proven design makes her ready for immediate use, rather than future projects.

Location and Viewing

The yacht is currently lying in the Scottish Highlands.

Equipment and Information

CONSTRUCTION

Hull: Hand-laid GRP laminate with isophthalic resins. Solid laminate below the waterline for strength; sandwich-cored above for stiffness and insulation. The hull is insulated internally for thermal and acoustic comfort.

Ballast: Internal lead ballast, fully encapsulated in the keel stub to eliminate keel bolt maintenance and ensure watertight integrity.

Deck: GRP sandwich construction with balsa or foam core for rigidity and thermal insulation. Deck and hull are bonded and through-bolted on an inward flange.

Teak: Teak decking, coachroof top, and cockpit sole.

Rudder: Spade rudder on stainless steel stock.

Structural Integrity: Bulkheads and furniture bases fully bonded to the hull for torsional strength; stringers and floors laminated into the hull shell.

Superstructure: Strong coachroof with handholds, fixed windscreen, stainless steel pulpit, pushpit, and guardrails.

Cockpit: Secure aft cockpit with excellent protection. Full-height cockpit enclosure in blue canvas (new 2025). Folding teak cockpit table, with extension and custom cushions.
